Bendigo Joss House Temple

Step back in time and discover the extraordinary story of the Chinese migrants who journeyed to Dai Gum San (Big Gold Mountain) during the 1850s gold rush. Opened in 1871, this heritage-listed place of worship stands as a vibrant monument to multicultural regional history and is one of the few remaining traditional Chinese temples in the country. Built from local handmade red bricks to symbolise happiness, strength, and vitality, the temple is dedicated to Guan-Di, the god of wisdom and prosperity. Bendigo Military Museum
Honour the Brave at Bendigo’s Leading Regional Military Museum
Located right in the heart of town and officially opened by the Earl of Stradbroke on 15 November 1921, the Memorial honours the thousands of local men and women who served in the Great War. Listed on the Victorian Heritage Register for its social and historical significance, the Soldiers' Memorial Institute is also architecturally unique. Its iconic dome was designed to support a full band rotunda on its roof. The brass Honour Rolls on the front of the building list 2,972 local heroes, including 42 nurses, with at least 499 of those never returning home.

For more than a century, the Bendigo Military Museum has grown from a memorial and RSL clubrooms into one of Australia’s largest memorial museums. Following a major $5.1 million redevelopment, the museum reopened in 2018 with world-class displays including permanent WW1 and WW2 exhibitions, a modern temporary exhibition space, the RSL History Room, and an education and display area known as the Billiards Room. Walk through world-class exhibitions showcasing everything from historic combat gear and certificates to rare photographs. Open daily from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm through a partnership with Bendigo Heritage, it provides a welcoming space to pause, reflect, and learn.
